About Me

Hey there

I’m Jess, the mastermind behind this operation. I’m a creative professional with thirty years of experience in design, development, and education in a variety of industries. Here’s a little bit more about what I do and my past experience.

I’ve published five fiction novels, in addition to countless pages of creative copy for press releases; product packaging, ads, and marketing materials; newsletters; video scripts; social media captions, and more. I genuinely enjoy creating SOP, technical, and white paper documentation. I’ve been leaving robust multimedia libraries of instructional and informational documentation in my wake since the beginning of my career, like a little Jessie Appleseed, planting tools of empowerment wherever I go. I’ve also ghostwritten novels and screenplays, and have worked as a studio writer developing screenplays for film and television.

I have a long history and deep love of developing educational and training programmatic. My experience spans from elementary school classrooms to Fortune 500 companies, to local non-profit and volunteer organizing spaces.

One of my first jobs that explicitly involved development of training materials happened by accident when I was still in my teens. I was compensated in étouffée and bread rolls. I redeveloped Landry’s company-wide training program for front of house staff. Later, I was hired as an entry-level account manager at Yahoo! – HotJobs. My exceptional client service and training methods got me promoted to Western U.S. trainer for all HotJobs agency accounts.

At the beginning of my Feral Era, I left to tour with my band, after which I co-ran an indie record label with several partners. Our ethos was rooted in the punk philosophy of recording on a scrappy budget, street promotion, and helping artists understand the production and publishing process with financial transparency and equity.

For five years following my exit from the label, I was Creative Director of YogaKids, an International kids wellness brand and training program, for which I developed physical products, a strong digital presence and online training program, in-person training programs, video training content (for adults), and kids educational content that incorporated yoga and movement with science, arts, and other scholastic and creative subjects.

In early 2020, the pandemic ended the show I was working on with Paramount. I re-careered into criminal justice reform, first as a full-time communications volunteer working across multiple organizations and campaigns, then full-time for a local non-profit. In my position as Digital Media Manager, I did the overwhelming majority of the design, web, social, and tech for the organization, across multiple ongoing campaigns for four departments. I successfully juggled large, complex projects and timelines while working in collaboration with my team and outside partners, including government offices. Some of my all-time favorite projects came to life under this organization. I did some of my finest copywriting for our bi-weekly newsletter, learned how to write political analysis, and sharpened my video production and animation skills. I still contract for the org, for ongoing back end development of the Court Watch LA volunteer dashboard, plus data collection and analysis tools. We also recently collaborated on their 2026 Progressive Voter Guide.

While I’m a strong designer, illustrator, and have a variety of other useful skills, my greatest superpower of all is my ability to listen and understand what my clients need. Not just to execute tasks on command, but to thoughtfully approach needs and pain points in a collaborative manner. We love addressing a root cause instead of trying to patch up the symptoms.

That’s the broad overview of my professional journey, with a lot of untold adventures stuffed into the gaps. If you have more questions about my experience, references, and availability to support with your next project, email me through the form at the bottom of this page. I look forward to meeting you, future friend!

PERSONAL BIO

In my non-working time, I’m building my off-grid homestead in the wilderness of the California Low Sierras where I moved after twenty-six years of living in LA. I hang out with my chickens, house bunny, and a few rescue cats. I write when it’s cold, and garden when it’s not. I frequently find myself wandering the mountains around my house in search of shiny rocks and magical vistas.
